Police Officer - Full Time

West Hennepin Public Safety (WHPS) is a Joint Powers Police department that has proudly served the Cities of Maple Plain and Independence since 1979. We are looking for someone who is committed to public safety and takes pride in their work. West Hennepin Public Safety is seeking qualified applicants who are highly motivated to assist in fulfilling our mission. WHPS is currently hiring a full-time police officer and will remain open until filled.

Eligibility

  • Current/Prior Sworn Full-Time Peace Officer. 
    • At least one-year of full-time experience within the last 12 months
    • Three or more years full-time experience desired
  • MN POST licensed or eligible to be licensed.
  • Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) or higher or willing to obtain within 6 months of hire. 

Salary

  • Lateral movement into pay structure based on prior experience.
  • Top Patrol Salary 
    • $79,647.07 (38.29/hr) to $105,052.76 (50.51/hr) 
  • Longevity with 3% at 7 years, 5% at 12 years, and 8% at 17 years. 
  • Prior service credit applied to wages and vacation accrual after 3 years
  • Frontloading of vacation & sick time based on prior experience.

  • On-Site Fitness Center (Brand new in 2024) 
    • Officers are allowed to work out on-duty

Hours/Schedule

  • 12-Hr schedule with every other full 5-day weekend off.
  • 5 on, 2 off, 2 on, 5 off schedule
  • Shifts are Days, Mids, and Nights
  • Annual shift bids for trimesters and regardless of seniority are guaranteed an alternate shift

  • SWAT Team Operator
  • Drug Task Force Agent (additional $3600/yr stipend)
  • Mobile Field Force 
  • Criminal Investigator (Detective) (additional $3600/yr stipend)
  • Drug Recognition Expert 
  • Crime Prevention Specialist
  • Firearms Instructor
  • Use of Force Instructor 
  • TZD - Traffic Enforcement 
  • Community Engagement - Social Media

We provide and outfit our officers with top-of-the-line patrol SUV's each equipped with modern equipment and technology. 


  • Officer Assigned Patrol Cars 
  • Modern Suppressed Patrol Rifles 
  • 40mm Less-Lethal Launchers 
  • Medical/AED Equipment (all new 2024) 
  • Ballistic Shields  
  • Riot Gear 
  • Officer Assigned Cellphones 
  • Latest Computers Hardware/Software 

Selection Process

Interviews will be held April 27th, 2026 at West Hennepin Public Safety. Following successful interviews candidates will be provided a background packet to be completed along with various pre-employment evaluations, successfully selected candidates will then be provided a job offer.
