Highway 12 Median Barrier Project
Project Description
MnDOT is planning to construct a center concrete median barrier along Highway 12 from County Road 6 to County Road 29 near Maple Plain. The project includes pavement improvements, better accessibility and improved drainage. The project runs May through September 2021.
Purpose
The median barrier will improve safety by preventing crossover crashes on Highway 12.
Traffic impacts
Highway 12 will be restricted to local traffic between County Road 6 and County Road 92. The detour is County Road 6. Some sections will be closed.
Highway 12, County Road 90 Roundabout Project
Project Description
MnDOT, in conjunction with Hennepin County, is planning to construct a roundabout at the intersection of Highway 12 and County Road 90 in Independence.
Purpose
The roundabout will reduce severity of crashes and improve safety. The proposed type of roundabout has been shown to reduce the frequency of serious life-altering injury crashes by 79 percent, moderate injury crashes by 36 percent and minor injury crashes by 10 percent.
Traffic impacts
Expect highway closures and traffic restricted to locals only between County Road 6 and County Road 92. The detour is County Road 6.
Construction Cost
This project is expected to cost about $4.7 million, using a mix of federal, state and county funding.
County Road 92 Safety Improvements at Highway 12
The County Road 92 safety improvements at Highway 12 project is scheduled to begin in Fall 2021. Hennepin County is finalizing the design this spring as it heads towards construction.
