West Hennepin Public Safety is excited to introduce our inaugural Cops & Bobbers Youth Fishing Event, a unique opportunity for local youth to spend a day on the water with police officers, community volunteers, and public safety partners while enjoying the outdoors and learning the fundamentals of fishing.
The goal of Cops & Bobbers is simple: build positive relationships between youth and law enforcement through a fun, hands-on experience that encourages mentorship, outdoor recreation, and community connection.
Participants will have the opportunity to fish alongside West Hennepin officers aboard volunteer pontoon boats on beautiful Lake Independence while learning about water safety, conservation, and fishing techniques.
In addition to fishing, participants will have the chance to meet representatives from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Water Patrol, explore public safety equipment and boats, and enjoy lunch following the event.
Each participant will receive:
All fishing equipment provided to participants is theirs to keep following the event.
The event is open to youth ages 7-15 who reside in Maple Plain or Independence.
Space is limited and participation will be based on available openings. Priority may be given to local youth and families who may not otherwise have access to similar outdoor recreation opportunities.
To be considered for participation, please complete the registration form below in its entirety. Submitting a registration form does not guarantee participation.
After your registration is received, a member of West Hennepin Public Safety will contact you with additional information regarding participant selection, event details, required waivers, and next steps.
We look forward to spending a day on the water with our community's youth and creating lasting memories through fishing, mentorship, and community partnership.
